Itineraries for children in the Ledro Valley: 5 ideas for family walks
The Ledro Valley offers many opportunities for families with children - relaxing on lake beaches, the activities organized by the Palafitte Museum, water sports, as well as many walks suitable for families with children. This valley surrounded by nature has many itineraries with little or no altitude difference, often accessible to strollers, to discover the beauty of this region without strenuous efforts and in complete safety.
In this new blog post we will highlight 5 itineraries for children in Valle di Ledro, to spend peaceful days immersed in the nature of Trentino.
The Ledro Land Art open-air museum
Anyone who has already spent a few summer days in the Ledro Valley has already at least heard of Pur Beach, located on the southern shore of Lake Ledro and surrounded by vegetation. Behind it, you’ll find the pine forest of the same name, crossed by a picturesque path alongside the Assat stream, leading adults and children to numerous works of art, all the way to Malga Cita. Most of these artworks are created with wood and stone, in a continuous dialogue with the surrounding nature: an open-air museum that fascinates, amazes and entertains.
Walk on Lake Ampola
Lake Ampola is an alpine lake near Tiarno di Sopra. This basin is part of an interesting biotope, easy to visit with children thanks to the presence of a comfortable wooden walkway. Step by step you discover reeds, swamps and expanses of water lilies, finally reaching the lake and then the forest. At the end of the route you’ll find the Biotope Visitor Center, for those who wish to learn more about the biodiversity of this place, rich in plant and animal species.
The forest of Fata Gavardina in Val Concei
The Concei Valley is the ideal place for family walks, with its flat nature trail that crosses the bottom of the valley, starting from the town of Lenzumo. Walking 4 kilometers through woods and old pastures, it is possible to reach Rifugio Al Faggio. Right below this refuge, you’ll find the forest of Fata Gavardina, a small forest populated by fairies, wizards, gnomes and forest animals. We are talking about the wooden sculptures created in 2018, all inspired by the legend of Fata Gavardina, a fairy who lives hidden among these trees - the perfect place for family walks and picnics.
The climb to the Madonnina di Besta
This short child-friendly excursion requires a little more effort than the previous walks: it takes less than an hour, but it is entirely uphill, first o an asphalt road, then following a path (secured with parapets and ropes, but still requiring to be walked carefully). It's a bit of a challenge, but once you reach the Madonnina di Besta you will be able to enjoy a unique view of Lake Ledro below! The usual starting point for this excursion is the Palafitte Museum, continuing along Via dei Colli and then the marked path.
The tour of the lake, discovering the stilt houses
Obviously you cannot leave the Ledro Valley without first having walked around the lake. The walk can also comfortably be done with a stroller: in total, crossing paved roads and paths, the route winds around the lake for 9 kilometers, crossing beaches and small villages. The icing on the cake is obviously the Palafitte Museum in Molina di Ledro, to discover what daily life was like in this valley 4000 years ago!
